UK producer Aaron Snapes stands poised, releasing his debut EP, CTC (Call The Cops) on Los Angeles based Perfect Driver Music, Feb 16th and needless to say, there is something special about the title track. Rooted with Tech House percussion and touched with the stylings of Dubstep, CTC is in a category of it’s own showing massive potential and imagination. Loud and beautifully mastered, it’s received support from international radio and graduated to the record bags of the worlds top DJ’s. Accompanying the original are 3 driving remixes, (produced by Denney, Mihai Stroe, and Matty Scoll) each paying homage to their respective genres, along with a special addition from Snapes titled Baltimore Baby.

Effectively conveying one’s feelings to music is a sought after goal of the most seasoned producers. Accomplished by some and mastered by a gifted few, we should all take a moment to welcome, Aaron Snapes. A product of London, in his early years, Aaron browsed the club scene sampling from a variety of genres. In search of the right groove, he bounced from Old School Hip-Hop, to Drum & Bass, from Trance, to Garage, until one night, feeling clarity, he experienced a resonance with House music. Through the years, nurturing this interest became a passion for Snapes and he soon found himself at the helm of his own productions, creatively painting a musical canvas while developing his loosely defined Tech House sound. Clinging to the perimeter of this genre, 2012 found Aaron in Leeds, UK, where his music garnered attention from personal inspirations like Dirty Bird front man, Claude Von Stroke and House legend Derrick Carter. When asked about his talents and unique sound, the lighthearted producer shrugs with a smile, “I just want to make fun, groovy music for people to dance to.” Not taking things too serious seems to work good for Snapes as he continues to refresh listeners with his imaginative music.

I just got a puppy, his name is Oliver. I love gastropubs– they’re so trendy and tasty right now. my second and third favorite cuisines are french and mexican.

If we could take care of all your commitments and gave you unlimited funds, what would you do next weekend?

Space tourism on a private plane with friends, family and good catering.If you could choose a superpower what would it be?

Hmm, the whole with great power comes great responsibility thing is a bit frightening. I mean, aren’t I a DJ because I’m afraid of any, let alone great, responsibility?!

If you had to advise someone on a club/city/festival for a proper decent rave up where would it be?

There are so many great options. I’ve been the the least likely places and had a blast. I suppose it’s nearly impossible to say. I think part of what’s really helped me get along with Headtunes are the gigs I’ve had in Boston, whether in an afterhours gay club or on the street, the vibe has been spot on and the people were ready to have it. I think these sets among others over the last 6 years cemented my relationship and paved the way to their choice in having me mix 5+1.

What turns you on?

Independence, trust, innovation, creativity, exercise.

What turns you off?

Laziness, conformity, bland ideas and lack of creativity & originality.

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?

I’ve been fortunate to have a steady day job that allows me to travel, I’m a marketing director for a concert promoter in Orlando. We hold over 300 events a year, it’s quite stressful, but my bosses have both been traveling musicians in their younger years. I’d like to continue exploring marketing and new media in further depth.

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

We catch up with the man who loves a bit of DC10 and who took up the challenge of compiling and mixing the recently released Lost My Dog compilation…

OK, so lets kick off with a track. . . what’s your current weapon from the Family Affair mix compilation that makes the party right off?
Homage New Jersey. The response to this track from DJs all over has been immense, always seems to rock the dancefloor.

Tell us 2 random totally non-music related things about you right now?
I’m a type 1, insulin-dependent diabetic, diagnosed 4 years ago. Pain in the arse but I deal with it.

I’ve also recently taken up muay-thai training, really physical workouts. I couldn’t fight sleep and I have no intention of fighting at any stage but the training is excellent.

Summarise the Family Affair mix compilation in 5 words or less?
Deep House Music By Me.

If we could take care of all your commitments and gave you unlimited funds, what would you do next weekend?
Good Question. I would probably head to Australia for a holiday.

If you could choose a superpower what would it be?
I would choose Russia. Oh wait, you mean…. Yeah I would choose the power of flight.

Go to Ibiza and check out DC-10.

What turns you on?
Women of dubious virtue.

When your not making house music, what other musical styles/genres/artists do you enjoy?
Everything! Breaks, DrumnBass, HipHop, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Reggae, Dub, Dubstep, UK Garage, Rock, Pop, Indie, whatever. I’m into all sorts!

What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
I would love to have made it as a soccer player but sadly I just didn’t have the minerals.

If heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

TWO.BIRDS was founded 2009 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany by Pat Garvin aka null.eins and Steffen Nehrig. One night after a long common dinner and several bottles of wine, the two Frankfurt based Djs and Producers, made up one’s mind to found their own imprint. Due to their long history and influenced time in electronic music or lets say music in general from their early days of childhood, they decided to place TWO.BIRDS as a soleley 10” label made out of white vinyl. To keep the night of foundation in mind and to refelct their second love of culinarily enjoyment, they gonna release to each new record an own cooking receipe, byside the appreciatively music of their good old friends, long time companions and themself. Phil Weeks releases his third album ‘Raw Instrumental’ in March 2012 and continues his recent dedication to sampling and creating music with classic Akai MPC3000 sampler. Following on from his critically acclaimed ‘Love Affair’ album from early 2011, the Parisian house producer once again focuses on digging in the crates to find samples which are then cut, chopped, sliced, diced and expertly tweaked into 14 fresh dance floor bombs. ‘Raw Instrumental’ will be released on double pack vinyl and digital download through Phil Weeks’ own Robsoul Recordings, now in its 13th year. The album will be introduced with a 4 track sampler, containing ‘Dirty Groove’, ‘On Da Raw’, ‘Pimpin’ 4 Weeks’ and ‘Do That Dance’.

The album concept is introduced via Phil’s trademark spoken vocal on the first track: “Raw instrumental material, like MPC 3K beats, mostly based on the sound quality and everything that makes my head spin!” It’s a relatively simple concept, but one that takes true skill and mastery of both the studio and dance floor to execute effectively.

Speaking further of the production techniques and inspiration for ‘Raw Instrumental’ Phil explains, “I was also inspired and influenced by classic movies and used samples to create a full atmosphere for home listening – the album includes samples from The Godfather, How High, Friday, Foxy Brown and more.” Phil’s previous album ‘Love Affair’ followed a similar sampling approach but with a focus on funk and soul roots. The album received rave reviews from DJ Mag, 5 Magazine, DeBug, iDJ and several other publications, while singles taken from the album were awarded Mixmag’s ‘Tune Of The Month’ accolade and reached #2 in Resident Advisor’s most charted tracks of December 2010.
