Long-term friends and cohorts Ali Love and Luca C have succeeded with something quite extraordinary in their new production guise as Infinity Ink. Already amassing a legion of support and an escalating fan-base their unique cosmic take on garage has struck a chord with the dance-floor and beyond. ‘Infinity’ has been one of Crosstown Rebels most highly anticipated records of recent times. A smattering of DJ’s, from Jamie Jones, Seth Troxler, Damian Lazarus, Lee Foss and Art Department have been championing its intoxicating qualities to nigh on sonic-hysteria over the past few months. Luca and Ali’s anthemic ‘Infinity’ is set to reach epidemic proportions this summer!

‘Infinity’ is an incredibly hooky slice of left of centre underground house, which encompasses elements of garage, through a hallucinatory resonance that cleverly maintains its notion of pop-sensibility. Ali’s evocative trademark vocal phrasing faultlessly compliments the monstrous disco bass line and intoxicating melody. A perfect unison that culminates in a piece of music that is pure hedonistic joy!

When remixing such a ground breaking piece of leftfield garage, who would be more suitable than Todd Edwards, and here he goes the extra mile to deliver arguably his best remix of recent years. The remix king of hypnotic staccato garage, Todd takes ‘Infinity’ to the next level and whisks you away to The Raleigh at WMC ‘96! On the flip, the guys jack the groove and deliver another killer in the guise of ‘House of Infinity’. A superb compliment to ‘Infinity’, this is for more peak-time play, as disco fills, jacking hi-hats and Ali’s hypnotic vocals mesmerize the listener into a spellbinding state of dance-floor bliss.

Ali Love’s prolific career has witnessed him produce two artist albums; several hit singles, and provided the vocals on hits by The Chemical Brothers, Justice, M Craft and Hot Natured. Luca C, formally of Luca C & Brigante fame, has been producing music under various guises and in various band for years and has recently co-written and produced a track on Jamie Jones’s latest album. Besides working together as Infinity Ink, Luca and Ali are working on a project with Jamie and Hot Creations – more news to be announced soon. So now, with Infinity Ink as the combination of their extraordinary talents, the future is looking very bright indeed for Luca and Ali.

One Month before We Love… Space, Ibiza opens its infamous enchanting doors for another season of down right debauchery Soundcanvas can bring you the full line-up for 2012. Soundcanvas has had a good old butchers at the line-ups and we really are struggling to pick out the biggest night of the lot! All of the line-ups look particularly well balanced which is important with the high’s and low’s of a 10 hour Space Sunday session. Having made a firm footprint in Ibizan sands last year at their We Love…debut, the Innervisions inner circle of Henrik Schwarz, Dixon and Âme return to take the helm on the opening weekend. Holding a four date monthly residency they bring a showcase that takes no prisoners with Tensnake, Wolf+Lamb’s Aquarius Heaven and French madmen dOP all playing live sets whilst the crowned prince of cosmic Todd Terje and minimal dance connoisseur Steve Bug bring their respective talents to the table as support.

The illustrious Hot Chip DJs Felix & Al take time out from their extensive tour schedule to come together for three exclusive Ibiza dates on the 17th June, 8th July and 30th September. The Hot Chip collective have proved themselves both as a stadium filling live proposition and dancefloor destroying DJs and will be demonstrating this madcap brilliance on the 3 nights they grace the decks at We Love…

Creator and ringmaster of the Dirtybird imprint Claude VonStroke has been supplying his enigmatic combination of house, funk, dirty bass and electronica to the We Love…soundscape for sometime. His residency comes to a climax on the 9th September when the rest of the Dirtybird family come down for a meeting of minds with a Terrace takeover bringing pet mix-up Catz N Dogz, Bristol boy wonder Eats Everything and Dirtybird’s second in command Justin Martin. Who will undoubtedly be keeping the boys and girls moving with many a track from his new acclaimed album ‘Ghettos & Gardens’ for a taste of what to expect hit play below on his – Below the Bassline – Spring ’12 Mix.

This year sees the first of a new and very special collaborative series with one of British house and techno music’s most prolific figures and one of We Love’s… best friends Paul Woolford. Paul will be conducting a string of back-to-backs with a host of new friends. Joining him in the booth will be Hessle Audio’s Ben UFO, dub experimentalist Untold and Apple Pip’s founder Appleblim. Expect filthy bass driven delights in the room of BOOM!

Building on last years huge success French born electro pop queen Miss Kittin makes a welcome return along with Dan Ghenacia and Ivan Smagghe who will be hosting the Terrace for a ‘French Week’ take-over alongside Trax Magazine on the 26th August. The close-knit trio of friends will be bringing their infamous Gallic electronics to the island.

Off kilter wunderkinds Four Tet and Caribou join forces to present their stunning show for their joint white isle debut, which has pushed electronica into blistering new territory. Together they have produced some of the most incredible and mind bending electronic music of recent times.

A live show at We Love…transforms the club into a theatre as artists take to one of the biggest stages on the island. 2012 welcomes 22 live acts to We Love…Space – the wildly diverse, chaotic and boundary breaking Modeselektor, Henrik Schwarz arguably one of the most versatile artists in electronic music, Carl Craig who brings his phenomenal 69 live show complete with masks, darkness and visuals, dOP, Pier Bucci, Simian Mobile Disco, Octave One, The Correspondents, Disclosure, Riva Starr, Appleblim & Al Touretts, Sandwell District, Skudge, Slam and the infectiously hypnotic Blondes will be amongst this summer’s live performances.

Having proven themselves masters in breaking new talent in Ibiza, We Love… introduce this year’s Fresh Blood with Julio Bashmore having just hosted his first Radio 1 show for their renowned In New DJs We Trust series, founder of the influential Hotflush label Scuba and giving out the bear hugs, cheeky compadres The 2Bears. Plus Ben UFO, Midland, Deetron, Oxia, Crazy P, Untold, Skudge, Cosmin TRG, George Fitzgerald, Eats Everything, Appleblim & Al Touretts Live will all be playing their debut We Love… Ibiza sets in Space throughout the season and sure to set some musical milestones in their wake.

Their 5-year celebratory release personifies the Baker Street ethos perfectly. There’s no fancy titles or clever marketing angles involved – Part 1 looks to the future with the label’s new breed remixing classic tracks, while Part 2 is a retrospective look at the high points of the last half decade. It’s curated by DJs for DJs. The release also comes with a mixed version by label boss Paul Hardy and sidekick McKai, which will be free to download.

Speaking of the landmark Paul Hardy commented, “The past 5 years have seen Baker Street rise through the ranks as one of the UK’s most exciting underground labels. We have a fantastic loyal fan base who have supported us and all our releases, we’re looking forward to the label evolving over the next few years and giving the Baker Street following some nights to remember!” The birthday celebrations will be backed by a new series of Baker Street monthly events starting in Leeds in early May.

The 5th Anniversary release showcases the higher profile names Baker Street have worked with like Moodymanc, Jay Shepheard, James Curd, Lee Mortimer and Sasse, alongside up-and-coming producers they have discovered like Matt Prehn, Ben Gomori, Tom Davis and James Barrett. It also includes a remix by Steve Banks of Matt Prehn’s ‘Insomniac Oasis’ – a track sourced through a recent remix competition, which triumphed over 50 competing entries.

Originally founded by Paul Hardy and Jacob Kelly, Baker Street made instant impact with their early vinyl releases before adapting to the changing industry with digital releases that allowed them to experiment more and work with younger producers. Hardy has remained at the helm and now produces tracks with McKai – recent releases have appeared on 3am Recordings, 22 Digit and 1999 Recordings alongside Baker Street.
As for the future, 2012 will see Baker Street getting back to its vinyl roots. Moving forward all releases will once again be released on wax and feature new music from Peckos, Steve Banks, Single Man and Michael McLardy.

That was set to change as Maya discovered more underground house and techno music, whilst partying to the likes of Steve Bug and Anja Schenider in and around East London. Aged 17; Maya bought herself some 1210′s and started learning to mix vinyl and play out.

“I wasn’t old enough to be in a club. But it’s more exciting when you’re that age, isn’t it, because it’s forbidden. I was totally hooked. Instantly, I knew I wanted to create my own take on it.”

Fast forward seven years and Coles has become house music’s hottest new property. Listening to her DJ Kicks mix, it’s not hard to see why. It opens with the muted synth chords and broken post-garage beats of ‘Loqux & Past’ by Deft, gradually acquiring more rhythmic weight care of tracks such as ‘In My Cocoon’ by Bozwell, a moody throb of glassy sounding electronics, wispy vocals and globular bass, and Coles’s own ‘Not Listening’, a driving cut built on a pounding yet melodic groove and exclusive to this DJ Kicks mix. It’s another Coles exclusive, ‘Meant To Be’, this time in her Nocturnal Sunshine guise, that marks the transition to a more shuffle-y, two-step-influenced passage. The word journey is often used to describe DJ sets — too often, perhaps — but it applies in this case, and on a grand scale.

“I wanted this mix to showcase my diversity,” says Coles. “I don’t just do one thing and I wanted it to reflect that. Most of the mixes I’ve put out there so far have been house based, but I also produce stuff under the Nocturnal Sunshine monicker, which is more two-step/bass influenced stuff. This mix evolved into something that wasn’t just four-to-the-floor.”

“The Nocturnal Sunshine track is something I started about three years ago,” she continues. “I never managed to finish it. I kept going back to it, but it was never quite right. I came back to it again, totally stripped it back and redid it and it came out really well. It’s not normally something I would do. Normally, if I can’t finish something I scrap it. The tracks I’m happiest with are normally the ones that come naturally and quite instantly. When I spend too much time working on something it can lose that specialness. If it’s too much effort then it doesn’t feel right. But in this instance it just had something that I really liked. I’m really glad I came back to it.”

This mix is so skillfully put together, it’s hard to believe Coles was ever ambivalent about DJing. “I got into production before DJing,” she reasons.

“I only started DJing regularly fairly recently. When I first started making music I didn’t have turntables. It was a couple years later when I got into club music that I learnt to mix and had my first DJ gig, but for a long time I focussed more on the studio/production side of things rather than playing out. It wasn’t until people started recognising my music on a larger scale that there was a demand and I began DJing more. But the more I did it the more I grew to love it. Now I wouldn’t be able to give one up for the other. The more you DJ the better you get at it and just like anything else it’s an on going process till you stop. The understanding of how to work a crowd and create moments on a dance floor is something you could never learn from mixing in your bedroom. You kind of just have to get thrown in to the deep end and learn first hand.”

And she’s not about to stop evolving any time soon. “My album, which I’m working on at the moment, has moved completely away from house music,” she says. “I suppose, in a way, this mix is preparing people for what they are going to hear next from me. My music will continue to get more diverse. There are a lot of vocals on the mix. I really enjoy working with vocalists and people might be surprised that 90% of my album is vocals tracks. I find it more interesting when there’s lots of different things going on”
